Northwind EnterprisesNorthwind Enterprises
We offer a wide variety of resources for the Ruffed Grouse and American Woodcock hunter and bird dog owner.

Northwind Grouse Habitat Maps You Off the Beaten Path
Specializing in Topo Maps of clear cuts 6-17 years of age (dependent on region). Areas Mapped include: Northern Wisconsin, Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Lower Michigan, Northern Minnesota, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and Pennsylvania. Includes GPS coordinate, access road intersections, size & age of clear cuts (on most Midwest maps) and more contained in each book of Maps. Check our website for details about our 2010 "In the Field Habitat Maps" available only for WI this season. Many new features not offered by any other mapmaker.

Northwind PRO Hunter Seminars Habitat in Your Backyard
Our unique Seminars provide hunters with a 3-stage program: Part 1 imparts the knowledge and skills to utilize satellite imagery, and aerial photography interpretation, to identify and map habitat closer to home. In Part 2 you will learn and view, via video clips, grouse and woodcock hunting strategies. In Part 3 you will learn how to better prepare, provide and get maximum performance from your gun dog.

Northwind PRO Hunter Workshop on DVD How to Find & Strategically Hunt Grouse/Woodcock
We developed a self-training version of our unique workshop consisting of three DVDs and a 94 page Workbook with over 4 1/2 hours of instruction. This material is not the same as that covered in our scheduled Seminars.

Northwind Grouse & Woodcock Guided Hunts Grouse and Woodcock Hunting Specialists
Guided hunts with Northwinds co-owners Ann Jandernoa and Skip Souther over their fine dogs or your own. Ann’s style is not for the faint of heart; this seasoned bird hunting guide will put you through the paces in some prime bird covers. Skip specializes in trail hunts (but loves to bust brush too) for those looking for a more leisurely pace or wanting to work a young bird dog on wild birds.

Northwind Kennels Grouse Dog Training The Family Pet that Hunts for You
Northwind Kennels is located in northern Wisconsin in some of the country's best grouse and woodcock habitat. Our dog training camp is deep in the woods, more than a mile from the nearest gravel road. We are surrounded by thousands of acres of public forest lands with wild birds to train our own dogs as well as to train our clients' dogs.

Northwind Grouse Dogs Elhew Bred English Pointer Pups and Started Dogs
The strength of the "Line Breeding" found in the Elhew bred English Pointers is readily seen in our pups. Line Breeding (the best of the best) gives consistent structure to the pup's conformation, instinct, ability, and intensive desire to hunt. Our pups and started dogs are highly socialized and given all the opportunities to develop their natural abilities at their own pace.
Gun Dog SupplyGun Dog Supply
Gun Dog Supply offers a wide selection of dog training supplies & equipment for sporting dog owners. Founded in 1972, this family business is now run by brothers Rob & Steve Snell. Steve hunts quail, pheasant, duck, and dove, and has 13 dogs: 3 retrievers, 5 pointers, 3 brittanys, 1 GSP, and a cocker spaniel named "Lucy" that his wife made him buy.

With over 1600 products, the most popular products for upland bird hunters are dog training collarsfrom Tri-tronics -- the Classic 70 and the Tritronics Upland Special with beeper. Read Steve's 2009 e-collars buyer's guide. Train yourself with a dog training books and hunting dog training DVDs, especially the pointing dog videos. Train your hunting dog with training scents, check cords & ropes, blank pistols and blanks, whistles & lanyards, game bird equipment, and bird launchers.

Track your dogs in the field. Read Steve's guides for dog tracking systems, and beeper collars. Steve swears by his Garmin Astro Dog GPS, but some folks prefer the sound of dog bells. Dog collars come with free engraved brass ID nameplates. Guard feet with dog boots and Tuf Foot. Protect from briars and brush with dog vests. Always be prepared with a canine first aid kit, too.

Steve says, "We stock what we sell. Order from us and you're covered with our 30 Day, No Risk, 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. If you don't like what you ordered, send it back and we'll fix it, or give you your money back. You'll be happy, either way. Get FREE Standard Shipping (US48) on all orders over $125."
Uplanders Warehouse
Our mission at Uplanders Warehouse is to offer the best and biggest assortment of upland hunting gear anywhere on the Internet. To this end, we are authorized dealers for Browning, Beretta, Filson, Columbia, Boyt, Bob Allen, and Turtleskin snake protection and more. While we specialize in upland hunting apparel (upland vests, upland jackets, shooting shirts, brush pants, upland chaps, etc.) we also carry a large assortment of shotgun ammunition and other hunting accessories. If a product can or should be used by upland hunters, our goal is to offer it at a good value.

We are also strong supporters of conservation and habitat?creating environments where birds (and hunters) can thrive and be successful for generations to come. That is why we created the 'U Donate' program that allows you to select your favorite conservation group and Uplanders Warehouse makes a donation from every product purchase. We believe we're the only retailer that commits a fixed percentage of all sales to upland conservation groups.

Weatherby's
Weatherby's is located on Grand Lake Stream in Downeast Maine and is one of the oldest and most famous fishing lodges in the country. We are now open through October for upland bird hunting. Our origins stem from the nineteenth century, and yearly visits have become a way of life for many sportsmen looking for a remote fishing experience. As your hosts, we are proud to be known among sportsmen worldwide for our friendliness and hospitality. We are committed to providing you with exceptional service and quality accommodations that will make your vacation not just a trip, but an experience, one that you will want to pass along to your children and grandchildren.

Weatherby’s sits on the edge of more than 1 million acres of forestland with hundreds of miles of gravel roads, allowing access to some of the best grouse coverts in the east. Opportunities abound for hunting over both pointing and flushing breeds. Spend a day or a week chasing the king of all game birds, the ruffed grouse, in the grandeur of a downeast autumn.

Located in the heart of the Atlantic flyway, Weatherby’s also provides opportunities for quality woodcock shooting. Whether in alder runs surrounding our countless wetlands, on aspen and birch studded hillsides, or around abandoned farms and orchards, the whimsical and legendary timberdoodle is certain to provide sport for the upland hunter. Combine a day of grouse and woodcock hunting, a local Registered Maine Guide (not required), good dogs and the glory of a crisp fall day, and you are guaranteed an experience that will be remembered for a lifetime.

Upland Outfitters Review
Outdoorsman's Edges is right here in Central/Coastal Maine. I arranged to meet with the knife maker Mike (an avid outdoorsman, fellow Maine Guide, and member of Upland Talk bulletin board) and was suitably impressed with what I saw. Needless to say a small game knife named "The Grouse" for me and a big game knife named "The Whitetail" for partner Pete are on order. The blades are made with 440C Stainless Steel which holds a nice edge and can also be ordered in high carbon steel from Germany or the classic "Russell Green River" blades-all in endless configurations. These are custom built knives designed specifically for you, one-at-a -time. He offers knives such as "The Blacktail Skinner", "The Moose", or "The Salmon", amongst others. Mike creates comfortable, custom handles and can work with bone, antler, black walnut (my choice), ebony (Petes choice), or just about any wood you desire or can supply. The handles are finished with a waterproof, durable, oil finish. They are supplied with a rugged, hand-sewn, deer hide sheath. In addition Mike creates double-sided box calls, one of which I hope to be using next year on a Spring gobbler.
