Welcome to Upland Journal; An online magazine devoted to the birds, the dogs, the guns, the friends and the experiences that culminate into the magic of upland bird hunting. If you're like me you long for the crisp days of fall, the aroma of decaying leaves, the rush of a grouse flush and the ballet of the woodcock rise-and yeah, the smell of a wet dog and the sting of briars across your nose. We are for the most part a solitary group, a minority if you wish, disciples of uncivilized places and wild birds. I hope you'll check back often to watch and help Upland Journal grow.

I've been a bird hunter for going on thirty years, a part-time upland guide for almost ten, and a commercial artist and art director for over twenty years. With that experience and with the help of my partner and fellow sportsman Pete Roberts our goal is to create an on-line format that maintains the same tasteful design and classic editorial direction of your favorite outdoor magazine.

Letters to the Editor
Just like a newsstand magazine we want to hear from you and will print your comments and observations in Letters.

Features
You’ll find original stories and articles with quality photography and original art. We may eventually offer subscriptions to a printed and/or downloadable PDF Upland Journal newsletter.

Upland Talk
A Bulletin Board where fellow sportsmen and women can debate, enlighten, commiserate and just get to know one another.

Photo Gallery
The Photo Gallery will be a place for you to show off your dogs, birds, or just a favorite photo that illustrates what bird hunting means to you. In time we plan to offer digitally-imaged montage prints; We will take your photos and create a fine-art style color print in a choice of sizes, mats and frames. Look for examples coming soon.

Upland Info.
Upland Info will be a directory for guides and lodging as well as a portal with links to various state wildlife agencies and other hunting related sites.

Upland Outfitters
This will function as an e-commerce Upland outfitter store where we will offer select bird hunting art, clothing, books, dog gear and assorted hunting accessories.

Upland Library
Our online bookstore will feature classic literature in the sporting and bird hunting genre as well as contemporary titles. You'll be able to order books, CD's, DVD's and videos online, conveniently and affordably.

Submissions
We'll be needing you to send us stories, articles, commentaries, art and photos for Upland Journal through our Submissions page.

Swap & Trade
This will be an on-line Classified section allowing visitors to offer a pup from the latest litter or maybe try and sell one of those shotguns that haven't swallowed a shell in a while.

Upland Journal will concentrate mainly on Ruffed Grouse and American Woodcock but we want to embrace all types of game birds. What would upland bird hunting be without the dogs. I'm sure that a good part of our editorial and art will be about our retrievers, flushers and pointing dogs.

Think of Upland Journal as that grown over tote road you keep driving by and thinking "I should stop and take the dogs for a run down there and see where it goes, I might just find a new bird cover." We're not exactly sure what's down around the bend on our road either but it promises to be an interesting hunt.
