With the diappearance of lead wheelweights I know of 2 guys with shotmakers who see the end in sight.

Thanks for the reference thread Bob. As I suspected, some folks loved the thing and others hated it. My friend who's most interested in this likes to tinker and is very mechanically inclined.

I only reload 28 gauge and a 25 pound bag of shot lasts a long time so I'm not as sold on the idea as he is.

I may chip in and help the fellows out with the purchase. Nothin ventured, nothing gained.

I know there are people who do this all the time. Just sayin' what the pro told me.

To me, there are a lot of easier ways to save money -- using reclaimed shot, selling hulls, etc. You'd have to shoot a heck of a lot to make shotmaking a money saver when you consider the time and effort it takes as well. The one guy I know who does make his own shot is an inveterate tinkerer and craftsman and I suspect he does it just to say that he does.

I would avoid it if I were you. I've had high levels of lead in my blood and the process to reduce it are expensive and takes months. It's not worth it.  :ghostface:
