We sold the hell out of those as a promo load when I worked for JC Penney Co. about 1969-70 I think. When shells came in case size... 20 boxes...
I think I may have a box around with the price on it. I'll check tomorrow. It will be stupid cheap by todays standards.

That was the last box for paper 16's from Federal.
Plastic shells? If yes, then post 1960.
Zip Code? If no, I'm guessin' pre-65.

By the looks of the packaging I would say late 60's to mid 70's.

Well, I looked around and I have to concur with the late 60's at the earliest.
These red papers pre-date the purple plastics and they are post-64 with the child warning and zip code in the address.

Check on the inside of the top of the box and there will be a Lot number. You can use the lot number to look up exactly when that box was made. I have over time gotten a nice collection of old rifle, pistol, and shotgun shells. I used this method to date them. You will just need to google shotgun shell lot look-up, or somehting like that

I was at Western Ill Univ in Macomb in the late 60's . Every Friday during dove season I would buy two boxes of those for my Sauer 16ga, for $1.99 each at the local farm store. No one in the little town of La Harpe, where we lived, west of Macomb shot doves at that time. Shot doves from the 1st of Sept. till the last day of the season. Can't remember ever seeing another dove shooter anywhere around La Harpe in the three years that I lived and hunted there.

I have a bunch of old empty and a few full shot shell boxes that my dad gave me a number of years ago, including a 12 Ga. box that is the same as that one. My dad would usually write the year he bought them and the amount he paid on the top. My box is marked 1972 and $1.88.
